If you've had Arrogant Bastard Ale, for the most part you know what Oaked Bastard brings to the table. First off, the cool bottle with the patronizing message to unworthy beer drinkers on the side. More importantly, though, the flavor. Complex and alcoholic. Malt sweetness is a combination of fruit, chocolate, brown sugar and something herbal. The hops are big, piney and balanced. Oaked Bastard of course is aged in oak barrels which adds a dose of bourbon like woodsy sweetness in the nose, adding even more complexity to this beer. This one is a winner. If you can find it, buy a few of them. My picture doesn't do this beer justice, typically the beer is a bit more foamy and held up to the light it has a sexy ruby/amber color. If you have one available, try pouring it into a goblet, snifter, or oversized wine glass to fully experience the aroma and also project the maximum level of arrogance during consumption.

I particularly enjoyed this entry! I hope you put more up like it soon. In addition to your chain-restaurant guide, I think Portland dive bars is a good idea. There's a lot of new ones.
I think the problem with Portland dive bars is that anytime he's in Portland, trying a new nice place is always a higher priority. There's a blog that does Portland dive bars, but I can't remember what it is at the moment.
I appreciate the Oaked Bastard in smaller bottles. Of course they would do it that way though.
Fowarded your blog to arrogant bastard, very well done.
I got some of this for Aimee and I to try, and she enjoyed it more than I, obviously because her palate is more sophisticated than my own. ;) I found the finish to be too bitter in its woodsiness; it stuck around in my mouth afterward like I had just chewed on a stick. I didn't dislike it as much as that imagery might make it sound, however.
The "In Alan's Kitchen" feature is pretty genius, I'm going to add a similar deal to my Facebook profile via the Extended Info application; maybe we can compare notes that way.
Anon #1, you might try Belmont Station (SE 45th & Stark), I picked up 12 oz. bottles of the Oaked Bastard there yesterday.
Thanks Elliot, I like the Kitchen too. There's quite a few oak or bourbon barrel beers out there, I'd be curious to hear your thoughts.
